Joseph Connor Phillips is an American actor and conservative Christian commentator and writer. He is best known for his role as Martin Kendall on the long-running NBC sitcom The Cosby Show, and as Justus Ward on the soap opera General Hospital.

From 1989 to 1991, Phillips portrayed U.S. Navy Lieutenant Martin Kendall on the popular NBC sitcom, The Cosby Show. Additionally, he portrayed attorney Justus Ward on the ABC soap opera General Hospital from 1994 to 1998. Phillips is also a guest political commentator on News and Notes with Ed Gordon on most NPR radio stations. In 2006, Phillips published an autobiography, He Talk Like A White Boy, which includes a foreword by Tavis Smiley.

Character
Lt. Martin Kendall (Joseph C. Phillips), is a Navy man, husband of Denise Huxtable, and father of Olivia. Phillips' role as Martin Kendall came about when Denise unexpectedly married him in Africa, unbeknownst to her parents and family. When the newlyweds arrive back home, Martin learns that Denise's family not only does not know about their marriage, they do not know about him at all. Kendall also had an ex-wife, named Paula (played by Victoria Rowell of The Young and The Restless). In the finale, it is learned that he and Denise are expecting a baby together.

Joseph C. Phillips played Sondra's date, a college student named Darrell, in a season two episode, before returning as the character of Martin.
