Ernie Hudson/Dr. Ken Fields

Actor
As Dr. Ken Fields on "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," Ernie's great at saving Ricky from himself. Back in the 1980s, Ernie was keeping New York safe from the supernatural as Winston in "Ghostbusters." Since then, he's had recurring roles on "Oz" and "Desperate Housewives," and he'll be appearing in the 2009 movie "Dragonball" (not yet rated) with Justin Chatwin and Jamie Chung of "Samurai Girl." Also look out for him in the movies "Lonely Street," "Balancing the Books" (with Mark Derwin, aka George Juergens of "Secret Life"), "Pastor Brown," and "Machete Joe" (all not yet rated). A Michigan native, Ernie got his master's degree in theater from the prestigious Yale School of Drama.

Character
Dr. Fields is a therapist working with Ricky, and usually his open, nonjudgmental style allows patients to talk freely. Dr. Fields always knows when Ricky needs someone to tell it like it is, even if the boy doesn't want to hear it. But even someone as calm and level-headed as Dr. Fields can get kind of steamed, especially when he finds out that Ricky's after his daughter, who's none other than Lauren (aka Amy's sometime BFF). And when his personal life starts crossing into his work, the doctor may not be able to stay quite so neutral anymore.
