Natalie Prior is the mother of Beatrice "Tris" Prior and Caleb Prior and wife of Andrew Prior. She was born in Dauntless to a Dauntless leader. She like her daughter is Divergent and on the advice of her own mother chooses Abnegation as her faction because she will get killed if Dauntless find out about her being Divergent. She is described as pretty and has pale green eyes with dimples on her cheeks.
In Divergent, she tells Tris that she loves and supports her no matter which faction she chooses. Her husband becomes disappointed when their children choose factions other than Abnegation but she smiles at them and supports their decision. She comes to visit Tris on Visiting Day and after finding out her being Divergent, instructs her to visit her brother and talk to him about simulation serum. She also appears in Tris's Fear Landscape. When Jeanine sentences Tris to death, she comes to her rescue. She saves her from drowning in the tank and also reveals that she herself is Divergent. This is the reason she left the Dauntless faction for Abnegation. She dies protecting her daughter.
In Allegiant, it is revealed that Natalie is actually from Milwaukee,and left the city after her mother murdered her father. She was found in the fringe by the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, who took her in and allowed her to stay in their compound. She volunteered to enter the Chicago experiment as a 15-year-old Dauntless and then transferred to Erudite on Choosing Day. However, she fell in love with an Erudite (Andrew Prior) and they transferred to Abnegation.
