Summer is drawing to a close and the gang is preparing for a new year of drama, rivalry, and betrayal. A summer spent bonding in summer school reunited former frenemies Naomi and Silver to bestie status. Along with a now baby-free Adrianna, the trio of friends seem destined to rule the halls of WBH. But where is Annie? Seems she's been relegated to loser status, after narcing out last year's after prom festivities. But that's the least of her problems... Meanwhile, Dixon and Silver are tentatively re-exploring their romance but a secret text message from an old love interest might just mean the end of their relationship.

Despite his problems at home, Liam joins Teddy and Dixon in trying out for the surfing team. Annie's fear and sorrow continues to consume her as more information about the man she killed comes to light. Turns out he has a nephew, Jasper, who seems strangely fixated on the guilt-stricken girl. Also feeling the pangs of guilt is Liam, who is determined that Naomi learn the truth about prom night. Too bad that the manipulative Jen isn't keen to come clean. Meanwhile, Sasha and Dixon's trip to Napa ends with a flat tire and a not-so-pleasant surprise in the trunk.

Kelly and Silver are shocked to learn that their mother, Jackie, is dying of cancer. Kelly refuses to be pulled back into her mother's bad behavior, but Silver doesn't feel the same way. Navid is devastated when Adrianna tells him that she needs time alone but immediately turns to Teddy. Jen continues to lie to Naomi and convinces her to lend her a large amount of money. Jasper and Annie's bond grows stronger after Jasper rescues her from a bad date. Harry and Ryan go to a bar for some guy time, where Harry attempts to be Ryan's wing man.

Kelly and Silver's sisterly bond continues to be strained by differing opinions about how to deal with Jackie's health situation. Dixon decides to end things with Sasha, but is instead surprised with shocking news. Meanwhile, Debbie and Harry face a bump in the road when she walks in on him and Kelly having an intimate moment, and Annie feels pressured when Jasper tries to get her to commit a crime while shooting a scene for his student film.

It is revealed that Sasha faked her pregnancy. Adrianna relapses and buys drugs from Jasper, who is a drug dealer. Jen and Ryan make their relationship official and Liam still thinks he has a shot with Naomi.

Jackie and Teddy throw Silver a surprise half-birthday party that takes her back to her childhood days. Dixon, Ivy, and Teddy assist Liam in devising a plan to get revenge on Jen. Dixon's decision to confront Sasha about her miscarriage forces Debbie and Harry to tell him the truth about the situation. Annie decides to take her relationship with Jasper to the next level after the two profess their love for each other. Meanwhile, Navid decides to confront Jasper about being a drug dealer after catching him selling substances to Adrianna.

Annie leaves Debbie and Harry surprised when she informs them that she would like to invite Jasper over for dinner. Dixon decides to pass on the event as a result of his anger over Debbie's management of the Sasha situation. Meanwhile, Kelly shows support for Silver regarding the caring of Jackie despite the fact that she does not yet know if she can ultimately forgive her mother for all the pain she has caused in the past. Navid confronts Adrianna about her drug use, and a weekend camping trip leads to Ryan and Jen's relationship climbing to a new level. Also, Naomi is caught kissing Jamie by Richard and his mother, forcing her to come clean about her plans for CU admission.

Annie questions Jasper about his drug dealing; he reveals his suspicions about the hit and run. Meanwhile, Navid and Adrianna team up to prove Jasper pushed him down the stairs. Teddy tells Silver how he feels and it makes Dixon jealous.

Naomi returns from vacation in St. Bart's ready to spend time with Liam, which leads to a hot encounter in his newly built boat. Adrianna and Gia grow closer when they attend an AA meeting and later share a kiss at the Beach Club. Navid and Dixon put together a plan to keep Jasper out of Annie's life, but they are surprised with the result of a school drug search. Dixon attempts to reestablish his relationship with Silver, but Silver is hiding her true feelings for Teddy. Harry and Debbie run into Kelly at a school function, and Debbie decided to confront Kelly about her crush on Harry.

Jen has taken control of Naomi's finances and puts her on a tight budget, causing a meltdown by Naomi. Distracted without her credit cards, Naomi fails to realize that Liam needs support to deal with his father's departure, so Liam turns to Annie for comfort. Despite his father's advice, Teddy continues his relationship with Silver, and the two decide to spend the night together. Harry and Debbie's relationship problems escalate when she learns that Harry has been hiding Dixon's gambling issues from her. Meanwhile, Jasper returns to resolve things with Annie.

Annie and Liam share their secrets when they take Liam's recently completed boat out on the water. Little do they know that someone is waiting nearby with plans to destroy the boat. Liam finally tells Naomi that their relationship isn't working, leaving her feeling lonelier than ever. After a late-night dance, Naomi turns to someone for help but ends up in an uncomfortable situation. Adrianna is offered the opportunity of a lifetime but is torn about the decision after Navid reveals his true feelings for her. Teddy seeks revenge against his father when he finds out that he tried to bribe Silver into ending their relationship. Ryan receives some shocking news about his past with Jen when a mysterious package shows up on his doorstep, causing him to start down a disastrous path. Dixon and Ivy's summer vacation plans in Australia come to an abrupt halt when Dixon confesses that he kissed Silver. Harry and Debbie face a major hurdle in their marriage when she discovers everything that Harry has been hiding from her in order to protect Dixon.
